Kate is the owner of Root to Leaf Counselling.  With over 10 years of experience in educational and counselling settings, Kate is committed to supporting people through a trauma-informed and anti-oppressive approach.  Her training in somatic therapies and trauma processing modalities have informed her understanding of symptoms related to attachment issues, developmental trauma, and complex trauma.  These models are based on the belief that all humans contain, within themselves, the necessary knowledge and capacity to heal from any and all adversity.  Tapping into that wisdom is possible, and with care, guidance, and support, individuals can heal from the deepest wounds.

Kate's Commitment to You:

"Root to Leaf Counselling will help you to transform your life and your relationships, and to reconnect with the authentic, empowered Self that is unique to you.  My belief is that everyone already has what they need to heal inside.  With support, each of us has the potential to access that healing and to create change in every part of our lives.

At Root to Leaf Counselling, you can expect to be welcomed, heard, and validated.  Your unique experiences will be respected.  Your needs and wishes for your counselling experience will be privileged. Together, in a creative and thoughtful partnership, we will tend to the parts of you that have been lost, hurt, and unacknowledged.  With my clinical experience and expertise, you will have the support you need to understand the past, cope in the present, and thrive in the future.   My role is to help you learn, practice, and embody the changes you want to see in your life.

My approach is eclectic, but has a strong focus on "bottom-up" interventions including EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, Parts work, and Inner Relationship Focusing.  A feminist and social justice perspective underlies my philosophy and frames my perspective on symptoms and responses to our experiences in the social world.

Often, people have been hurt in their closest relationships; a safe, validating, and compassionate counselling relationship can help to heal those wounds. Building a trusting and respectful foundation is at the core of my practice. In this environment, it can be safe, and even exciting, to reconnect with the person you were meant to be.  Through this process, past trauma(s), difficult life events, and current destructive habits are acknowledged and named - and new ways of being become possible."
